Hawaiʻi HOME Project
Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project provides free medical, behavioral health, vision, and social-resource services to people experiencing houselessness across Oʻahu. Its student-run clinics bring medical students, physicians, and volunteers directly into shelters and community spaces to provide care.
Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project brings free healthcare to people experiencing houselessness through student-run clinics and outreach across Oʻahu. Patients can receive preventive care, treatment for acute and chronic conditions, wound care, immunizations, laboratory testing, behavioral health services, vision care, and help connecting with other community resources. The project operates at shelters, a kauhale, a church, and an outdoor clinic, while its mobile health van allows volunteers to reach other unsheltered populations. What makes the model distinctive is who provides the care. Premedical and medical students work alongside resident physicians, faculty, and community doctors, giving students hands-on experience while providing healthcare to people who may face significant barriers to accessing it.
