Habilitat provides long-term residential substance-use treatment on Oʻahu through a structured program that combines recovery, education, vocational training, and preparation for independent living.

Habilitat provides long-term residential substance-use treatment through a structured program designed to help residents build the skills needed for life after treatment. Residents move through treatment, re-entry, and post-re-entry phases, gradually taking on more responsibility and independence. Along the way, they can complete high-school equivalency or basic-skills classes and receive hands-on vocational training in areas such as construction, culinary services, landscaping, office administration, and information technology. After completing the residential program, graduates can also move into transitional housing while working and saving money as they establish independent lives.

At Habilitat, vocational training isn't simulated classroom work. Residents help operate actual departments and businesses within the organization, including construction, food service, landscaping, administration, sales and marketing, and other operations. The kitchen, for example, prepares meals for more than 100 residents every day while residents learn food preparation and kitchen management. The idea is to use everyday work itself as part of the recovery process—giving residents responsibility, routines, practical skills, and experience they can eventually take into the workforce.
