Hale Kipa supports Hawaiʻi youth, young adults, and families through housing, foster care, mental health services, outreach, and independent-living programs. Its services help young people navigate crisis, build stability, and prepare for adulthood.
Hale Kipa provides a range of services for youth, young adults, and families navigating crisis, trauma, homelessness, foster care, behavioral health challenges, and other barriers. Programs include emergency shelters, therapeutic foster care, mental health services, outreach, housing assistance, independent-living support, and workforce development. Young people can receive help with housing, education, employment, life skills, mental health, and navigating support systems. Hale Kipa operates programs across Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Maui, and Hawaiʻi Island and has served more than 74,000 youth since its founding in 1970.
What Makes This Work Interesting
For a young person leaving foster care or experiencing homelessness, getting a place to live is only one piece of becoming independent. Hale Kipa's programs can combine housing with case management, education, employment support, financial literacy, and life-skills training. Some young adults can receive housing assistance for up to 36 months while working toward self-sufficiency. That creates an opportunity to look at independence as a process—not a single moment when someone gets an apartment, but the many practical steps that have to happen afterward.
