Hawaiʻi Appleseed works with communities to tackle the policies and systems behind issues like housing, food security, transportation, wages, and economic inequality. Its research, organizing, and advocacy turn community experiences into action for policy change.

Hawaiʻi Appleseed works on the policies and systems that shape everyday life for people across Hawaiʻi. Its focus areas include affordable housing, food security, wages and labor, transportation, and taxes and the state budget. The organization combines data and research with community engagement, coalition building, public education, and advocacy. Rather than treating research as the end of the process, Appleseed works with people who experience these issues firsthand and uses their experiences to help identify barriers and possible solutions. That can mean working with farmers and food organizations on food policy, studying how Oʻahu residents actually get around, or helping residents in communities such as Waipahu and ʻEwa develop the skills to organize around local issues.
