Hui Malama O Ke Kai
Hui Mālama O Ke Kai provides free after-school and summer programs for Waimānalo keiki and ʻōpio, combining Hawaiian cultural education, academics, outdoor and ocean learning, community service, and leadership development. Families also take part in activities designed to strengthen community connections.
Hui Mālama O Ke Kai creates a place for Waimānalo youth to learn through culture, ʻāina, kai, academics, and community service. Its free after-school programs serve 5th- through 12th-grade students, with younger keiki learning Hawaiian values and ancestral knowledge while receiving homework and extracurricular support. Older ʻōpio take on additional responsibilities, including helping lead lessons and activities for younger students as they prepare for adulthood and community leadership. The organization also offers a four-week summer program, monthly ʻohana activities, and free community events focused on Hawaiian customs, healthy eating, ʻāina, and kai. Its programs are rooted specifically in Waimānalo and are designed not simply to teach young people about Hawaiian culture, but to give them a sense of belonging and responsibility within their own community.
